Israel declared on Tuesday that it had begun attacking Hamas terrorists inside the vast tunnel system that runs beneath Gaza. This action prolongs the humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian enclave, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls for a ceasefire.
The tunnels have become a major target as Israel steps up its ground operations inside Gaza in an effort to topple the Hamas government, which has taken over 1,400 lives in a gun spree three weeks ago. TThe combined Israel Defense units (IDF) combat units struck over 300 targets in the last day, the IDF reported. These targets included anti-tank missile and rocket launch stations located beneath shafts, as well as military complexes inside the underground tunnels used by the terrorist organization Hamas.
Terrorists from Hamas used machine guns and anti-tank missiles to counterattack the Israeli offensive. The IDF stated that Israeli soldiers eliminated terrorists and directed air forces to carry out real-time strikes on targets and terror infrastructure within the tunnels.
The conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with no ceasefire in sight as of now.
