Manali Adventures: Things to do and Places to visit.

Lockdown hasn’t been a good experience for many of us. All this negativity around and locked up at your home degrades your mental health. Travelling and adventure are some sort of savior in such conditions. And whenever we say adventure, Manali is the first name that comes up. Manali is in the state of Himachal Pradesh, near the northern end of the Kullu Valley in the Beas River Valley. Being a hill station, people love to visit around here during the winter season. During the winter season, the whole town looks like having a blanket of snow all over it. Not only because of the beautiful scenic view but also, Manali offers such adventurous and joyful activities.

Landscape views of the Himalayan region hit differently. Beautiful mountains with deep valleys and lots of greenery around. There are some very beautiful villages in Manali. Malana, Kothi, and Vashisht are some of them.

Malana is said to be one of the most beautiful villages in India. It is situated on a remote plateau by the side of the torrential Malana river, at a height of 2,652 meters (8,701 ft) above sea level. Malana has its own lifestyle and culture. The peaks of Chanderkhani and Deo Tibba. A most simple way to reach Malana is by taking a taxi or bus.

Kothi is an inspiring destination located at the foothills of Rohtang Pass. It is approximately12 kilometers away from Manali at an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level. Kothi offers a magnificent view of mountains covered with snow, glaciers, and the Beas River. It is a perfect plan for camping if you are planning to climb the Rohtang Pass.

Hot water bath at Manikaran

Manikaran is 4 km away from Kasol and about 45 km away from Kullu. It is very famous for its hot spring bath and religious beliefs. There are many religious perspectives and believes associated with this sulfur water bath. This place has some temples and a gurudwara. Hence, it is associated with the religious sentiments of Hindus and Sikhs majorly.

Both the communities have different believes and stories about this place. People visiting here even believe that this hot water stream at Manikaran has healing properties and is capable of healing problems like muscle pain and rheumatism.

According to Sikh’s belief, this holy site was built by Shri Guru Nanak Devji and his disciple Bhai Mardana. Whereas according to Hindu’s belief, lord Shiva and goddess Parvati marked their presence at this place for years and goddess Parvati lost her “mani” (precious stones) in this water stream.

Visit Hidimba Devi temple.

Hidimba Devi temple is an ancient cave temple in the name of Hidimba Devi, wife of Bhima ( One of the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata). Locals also call this temple as Dhungari Temple. A cedar forest “Dhungiri Van Vihar ” covers the boundaries of the temple.  Maharaja Bahadur Singh built this temple in 1553.

It is one of the most popular tourist and pilgrim spots which is around 1.5 kilometers away from the mall road in Manali. The temple has four floors. Locals often visit this temple with belief and faith. If you are visiting Manali, make sure you pay a visit to the Hidimba temple to seek some peaceful vibes and to see this wonderful historical and archaeological place.

Go for some skiing at the Solang valley

Solang Valley is at the top of Kullu valley, around 14 kilometers away from the main resort town Manali on the way to Rohtang pass. This place is very popular among tourists for its adventurous sports. Precisely, this place offers parachuting, paragliding, skating, skiing, and zorbing depending on the weather’s favourability.

Sloping down on snow-covered slopes with your skis while enjoying the cold waves and beautiful view is a mesmerizing experience. While in the summers, these snowy slopes meltdown. Hence at that time, the ground and weather conditions are perfect for zorbing or globe-riding. Zorbing means when people are tied in a huge unbreakable ball and pushed down from the hill.

Thrilling activites at Rohtang Pass.

Rohtang Pass is also known as the snow point of Manali. People across the country visit this place to enjoy some breathtaking activities during the summer season. Due to unfavorable cold weather, Rohtang Pass is closed for the public from the month of October to May. This place is around 51 kilometers away from Manali and at an altitude of 3,979 meters above sea level. Hence, in Winters, the mountains in Rohtang pass are completely covered with snow.

This beautiful valley is a gateway to other valleys like Lahaul Spiti, Pangi, and Leh. Tourists enjoy a beautiful cinematic view here and also try different fun activities like snow scooters, skiing, paragliding, mountain biking, or ATV.

Visit Manali Wildlife Sanctuary

If you are a nature and wildlife enthusiast, make sure you don’t miss the chance of hanging around in Manali Wildlife Sanctuary. It starts about 2 kilometers from the center town Manali. This place is natural heaven and offers a huge variety of flora and fauna. It’s a huge area covering about 7,413 acres of land with lush greenery and beautiful snow-covered mountains. You can experience the wonderful sight and sounds of beautiful birds and exotic animal species.

Visitors find this place very peaceful and attractive with a wide range of different species of flora and fauna. Earlier, this place was home to many rare species like musk deer, Himalayan black bear, flying fox, striped hyena, and barking deer. Though, you may still spot rare and endangered species like leopards, brown bears, and goral.

Not just about the wildlife, but this place is home to many exotic flora species like Deodar, Horse Chestnut, Kail, Maple, and Walnut.

Go for Rafting :

As we know, Manali is associated with the River Beas Valley. Rafting here in cold icy water is surely a lifetime breathtaking experience. The River Beas is at its strongest here. The valley is famous for its range of 14-kilometer stretch of white water down to Jhiri. These properties and natural conditions make this place perfect for rafting. Many sports adventure companies offer rafting facilities in Manali. If adventure is something you are looking for, then what’s better than facing huge waves in a raft along with your friends.

As River Beas valley’s stretch is one of the best place for rafting in India, it offers short stretches for beginners and long, powerful stretches for experienced people.
