‘Saudi stands by Palestinians’, says Crown Prince MBS as Hamas fumes over int’l support to Israel

In a phone call to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized that the kingdom is on the side of the Palestinian people.

As the war between Israel and Hamas entered its fourth day since a “surprise attack” by Hamas on October 7, Saudi Arabia came out in support of Palestine. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed in a phone call to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that the kingdom stands by the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights to a decent life, realize their hopes and aspirations, and achieve a just and lasting peace, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday (October 9).

The Saudi prince spoke of the kingdom’s efforts to stop the conflict and its potential proliferation in the region. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas thanked the Saudi prime minister for the country’s support, Arab News reported.

Meanwhile, IIzzat al-Rishq, a member of the Hamas political bureau, criticized the joint statement issued on Monday by the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy on the war between Israel and Hamas. “These positions reaffirm the double standards of these countries and their obvious bias towards the Zionist occupation,” al-Rishq said, “giving it cover and encouragement to continue and escalate its crimes against our defenseless people.”

In a statement, the leaders of the five countries wrote: “We make it clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism. In recent days, the world has watched in horror as Hamas terrorists massacred families in their homes, massacred over 200 young people enjoying a music festival, and kidnapped elderly women, children, and entire families who are now being held hostage. Our countries will support Israel in its efforts to defend itself and its people against such atrocities. Further, we emphasize that this is not a moment when any party hostile to Israel is using these attacks to seek advantage.”

However, the statement also supported the interests of the Palestinian people: “We all recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians. But make no mistake: Hamas does not represent these aspirations and offers nothing but more terror and bloodshed for the Palestinian people. ” reads the statement.

“In the coming days, we will remain united and coordinated, together as allies and as mutual friends of Israel, to ensure that Israel can defend itself and to ultimately create the conditions for a peaceful and integrated Middle East region,” the statement said. concluded.
