In a thrilling display of athleticism, Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar secured the silver medal in the men’s decathlon event at the Asian Games 2023. Shankar had shown promise by leading the competition on October 2, but faced challenges on the final day of events. Ultimately, he concluded the grueling decathlon with a total score of 7666 points, earning him the second-place spot.
This remarkable achievement holds historical significance as Shankar’s silver medal is India’s first in decathlon since 1974. Moreover, in the course of his performance, he shattered the national record, showcasing his exceptional skills and dedication.
In another notable feat for India, long-distance runner Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath secured a silver medal in the men’s 800 meters final. Kumar, the competitor with the best ranking, finished in second place with an impressive time of 1:48.43. Another Indian competitor in the same competition, Krishan Kumar, managed to place fifth.
The medal tally for India continued to rise as jumper Praveen Chithravel clinched a bronze medal in the men’s triple jump event. Despite being unable to complete his sixth attempt, Chithravel secured the third spot with his initial jump of 16.68 meters. His compatriot, Aboobacker, put up a strong performance with a 16.62-meter jump, narrowly missing out on a medal with a fourth-place finish.
