10 Ways to deal with Peer Pressure to stop ruining your teenage

We live once, die once then why to spoil teenage for even once? Peer pressure is the influence of friends or any other individual who encourage you to follow the ‘cool’ trends by changing your attitude, nature, behaviour, and surroundings. A person can be influenced in many ways- negative or positive. Sometimes it becomes sour to fit yourself in a group. You might start doing what you do not want or would not do otherwise. Listed are the 10 possible ways to avoid the negative effect of peer pressure.

  1. BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR CHOICES

Teenage is the time when we have to make strong yet bold decisions. You will have to be ready to take the best possible action that your conscience demands. Never participate in discussions that you can’t handle or that cross your head

2. SPEAK UP

Ever spoke bluntly for what is right? Feared of getting embarrassed? Or fear of being shot down? Well, whatever it is take a stand. This could lead to trouble sometimes but not always. Give dissent but don’t stand on a soapy box. Speaking and making your voice heard will boost your confidence and construct a better ‘you’.

3.CHANGE THE SUBJECT

There are plenty of ways to divert the discussion where you don’t find yourself. If your peer asks you to do something against your will try to change the subject right away. Divert your conversation to a new talk, make jokes and communicate as much as required.

4.CAREFUL WITH THE FRIENDS YOU HANGOUT WITH

We are surrounded with different types of people. Friends play an important role in shaping your teenage. A wrong friend or unwanted company is like that rotten apple that can severely make others poor and useless. The best way to stay out of the negative circle of peer pressure is not to be with those who get you into a situation like this.

5.KEEP YOURSELF BUSY

One of the easiest ways to keep yourself away from unwanted peer pressure is to keep yourself busy with healthy activities. These activities could be studying, reading, cycling, swimming, listening to music, or anything that makes you happy.

6.DON’T HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP

Teenage means responsibilities and challenges. It is on us how to deal with them. In the times of making tough and crucial decisions never feel afraid to ask for anyone’s advice or help. This ‘anyone’ could be your teacher or parents.

7.MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION

Learn to say ‘No’ to your peers. Taking control of a situation is a skill you need to conquer. It needs practice. Find new ways to control your life. Make yourself and surroundings comfortable and suitable.

8.STAND UP

Standing up confidently and straight is another way to make others realise that you are not going to be pressurized by them. It shows that you are self-confident and cannot be bullied by anyone in any way.

9.WALK AWAY

Walk away from situations, you don’t want to be a part of or where you cannot make choices. Never put yourself in a situation you cannot handle.

 10.REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

We all experience peer pressure in some way. Different people find different ways to tackle uneasy situations. Friends will come and go but the person inside you will never leave you. Stay strong and discover your talents and capabilities. Work on that. Polish your skills, listen to elders, take help, meditate but never fall prey of peer pressure. It is temporary, you are permanent.
